Resident Evil 3

Resident Evil 3 (stylized RESIDENT EVIL 3) is a computer game that is a remake of the 1999 game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, as well as a continuation of the two previous remakes of the series – Resident Evil (2002) and partially Resident Evil 2 (2019).

The game was developed by Capcom M-Two and Red Works with assistance from Capcom K2. The game was announced in 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows gaming platforms. The release took place on April 3, 2020.

Game process
Like the remake of Resident Evil 2, which was released a year earlier, Resident Evil 3 is a 3D game with a third-person perspective. Despite the fact that the remake is not officially positioned as an action game, in comparison with the original game in 1999, it is essentially a frank dynamic shooter, in which the horror component is practically absent. Just like in 2019’s Resident Evil 2, the player needs to conserve ammo, keep an eye on their health, and only carry the essentials with them.

There are no opportunities to freely explore Raccoon City, only certain locations are available, including a gas station, offices, a hospital, shops and other places in the city. Some of the available locations – the sewer labyrinth – have become more spacious. The knife no longer breaks, but this cannot be used as a last resort in self-defense. It is recommended to run away from Nemesis, although sometimes you can delay him, for which rare cartridges and weapon upgrades are awarded. Safe rooms remain safe hiding places. A simplified mode is also available – an analogue of a low level of difficulty, on which health is restored, enemies are weaker and a lot of ammunition.

Game manager Kiyohiko Sakata explained that the developers wanted to show the contrast between Nemesis and Tyrant from Resident Evil 2, as well as build a connection with the Las Plagas parasites in Resident Evil 4.

The duration of the main campaign is shorter than in Resident Evil 2. The narrative is linear, unlike the original, there is no branching of the plot, so the game has only one ending.

Plot
The plot takes place after the events of the game Resident Evil (1996) and its remake (2002), continuing the story of Jill Valentine, a member of the S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service – “Special tactical and rescue service”). Jill, rescued by pilot Brad Vickers in the plot of the first game, this time tries to get out of the city of Raccoon City, which is engulfed in a zombie epidemic due to the leak of the T-virus developed by the Umbrella Corporation. The action also takes place a day before the plot of Resident Evil 2, as well as 2 days after.

Jill Valentine, suspended from service after the events of the first part, is waiting for the epidemic in her apartment. After a call from her colleague, Brad Vickers, “Nemesis” bursts into the apartment – an artificially bred mutant super-soldier hunting for members of the S.T.A.R.S. squad, of whom there are only two left in the city – Brad and Jill herself. Fleeing, Jill meets Brad on the street, and together they try to get out of the city, but when confronted with the infected, Brad was bitten and, sacrificing himself for Jill’s sake, it remains to hold back the crowd of zombies. Nemesis catches up with Jill and nearly kills her, but she is rescued by a mercenary named Carlos Oliveira. Carlos takes Jill to a safe zone, a subway station, where his fellow members of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service) are trying to activate a train to evacuate citizens from the city. The leader of the detachment, Mikhail Victor, persuades Jill to help them start the train. In search of a way to start the train, Jill observes a situation where another colleague of Carlos, Nikolai Zinoviev, kills one of the mercenaries of their detachment, suspecting him of infection, which sowed suspicion of Jill.

Plugging in the power plant and plotting the train route from the control room, Jill once again confronts Nemesis, this time armed with a flamethrower, and gives him a fight on the roof of an unfinished house. Taking refuge in a subway station, Jill prepares to leave the city with the survivors, but Mikhail sends Carlos, along with his partner, Tyrell, to the police station, where Umbrella’s key researcher, Dr. Nathaniel Bard, is supposed to be. The train does not have time to leave the city: Nemesis penetrates it, and, after killing the evacuees, follows Jill. Nikolai escapes, deliberately blocking the door between the cars, leaving Jill and Mikhail at the mercy of the monster. Mortally wounded, Mikhail blows himself up with explosives in the hope of stopping Nemesis. From the explosion, the train flies off the rail.

Meanwhile, Carlos and Tyrell make it to the police station, where they witness the final meeting of an infected Brad Vickers and Marvin Bran, a police officer from the previous game. Brad bites Marvin, who escapes, and Carlos has to finish off the infected officer.
