Half-Life: Alyx is a first-person shooter computer game for virtual reality devices developed and published by the American company Valve. The game is built on the Source 2 game engine, and was released on March 23, 2020 on a PC running a Windows operating system with support for most PC-compatible VR headsets. The first game in the Half-Life series after more than 12 years since the release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two in 2007, the story of the game follows Alix Vance, who first appears in the series as a protagonist, about her father, Eli Vance. and about their struggle against the occupation of the Earth by the alien civilization “Alliance”.
The action takes place five years before the start of the events of Half-Life 2. Alyx Vance, being in her safe house, watches as her father Eli and members of the Resistance on a mission to steal a reactor from the Alliance. Eli, having contacted Alix, reports that the mission is successful and adds that he noticed a strange structure in the quarantine zone. Alix replies that she noticed the Alliance began supplying weapons and supplies to the City 17 quarantine area, which leads to them being attacked by Alliance forces and taken prisoner. Another member of the Resistance, Russell, manages to rescue Alyx, and he reveals that perhaps the Alliance will send Eli to Nova Prospect for questioning. He plans to intercept a train near the Fairview junction. Taking a pair of gravity gloves and a pistol from Russell, Alix enters the quarantine area to intercept the train with Eli. Making her way through the sewers, she comes across mysterious drawings on the walls depicting events of the past and future. Soon she finds the lair of the artist – an eccentric lonely Vortigaunt, who warns her that Eli will die in the future and tells her to “follow the northern star”, and also predicts that she will free his relatives.
After making her way through the quarantine zone, Alix reaches the Fairview junction, where, after fighting off the resistance of the Alliance forces, she seizes the station and tries to stop the train, but the terminal breaks down and she has to derail the train with her father. The corpses of the Alliance Advisors are found among the broken wagons. Soon, Alix manages to find Eli, hanging over the abyss. She stretches out her hand to him, but he does not have time to grab and falls. At this moment, he is rescued by the Vortigont he met earlier. Eli tells his daughter that while he was in custody, he learned that a strange structure in the quarantine zone is called the “Vault”, and that the Alliance is keeping some kind of superweapon in it. Vortigaunt accompanies Eli to City 17 to decipher the Alliance datapod with Russell. Eli asks Alix to find the Vault and steal it before the Alliance can move it to a safer location.
Alix continues through the abandoned metro station to the office of The Terminal newspaper, where through the windows in front of her a view of the Vault, the huge Alliance spacecraft, opens up. Soon she finds herself in the square in front of the North Star Hotel and realizes what Vortigaunt was talking about. Once inside the hotel overgrown with alien vegetation, Alix discovers the Alliance substation, where the captured Vortigont acts as a source of energy, who thanks her and says that he will free his fellows. This is how the heroine fulfills the prophecy. After Alix, through the residential quarters, makes his way to the brewery “Zlaten Lv”, where he helps the surviving citizen – Larry – to defeat the mutated alien monster nicknamed “Jeff”. Near the exit from the factory, Eli contacts her, informing that the “Vault” does not contain weapons, but what the Alliance fears most. Alix hopes they can join forces to get rid of the Alliance. Having found the control terminal, Alix unlocks the gate and finds herself in an abandoned zoo inhabited by ant lions.
Soon, the girl finds herself at the Alliance farm, where he breeds ant lions and secretes acid from them to clean up the abandoned areas of City 17 from extraterrestrial flora. Only a few meters are left to the “Storage”. Alix notices that cables are being separated from the ship, which means that the Vortigaunt has nevertheless turned off the other substations. The ship falls, however, a gravitational beam hits from the tower of the Alliance base, which prevents it from collapsing. Having reached the base, Alix hears a certain female informant [a], communicating with the Alliance Advisor, saying that there is a survivor from the Black Mesa in the Vault. Having contacted Alix, Eli and Russell, upon hearing this, suggest that it could only be Gordon Freeman, so he needs to be released. Alix breaks through the security forces of the building and disables the gravity plant, the ship crashes on the buildings. Passing through the ruins, the girl encounters a dead strider, but soon he comes to life and she has to flee. While fleeing, she finds an Alliance stationary grenade launcher and overpowers the Synthet.
