Gameplay
Campaign
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set during the Cold War in the early 1980s. The story is inspired by real-life events, and the campaign features locations such as East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, and the headquarters of the Soviet KGB.
The campaign’s centerpiece is a user-configurable agent called Bell, with options for different skin tones, ethnicity and gender, as well as personality traits that provide in-game perks. The campaign will have multiple endings, depending on the player’s choices throughout the campaign.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer game includes new game modes and a return of game modes, as well as maps that are suitable for both traditional 6v6 format and the larger 12v12 combat. The game also introduces a new game mode “Fireteam” that can support up to 40 players – Modern Warfare’s Create-a-Class returns with two major differences: Field upgrades are implemented as part of the class outfit, and each class has a choice of four possible wildcards: Gunfighter (allows 8 modules to be installed on weapons instead of the standard 5) , Perk Greed (allows you to use 2 perks from each type of perk, 6 perks in total), Danger Close (equipment with two grenades) or Lawbreaker (allows you to mix and match any weapon / perk of any type in any slot). Cross-platform play and cross-platform progress will also be supported. Additionally, the multiplayer progression system will be integrated with Call of Duty: Warzone, which means that gears and weapons unlocked in Cold War can be used in Warzone and Modern Warfare (2019) and vice versa.
Zombie
Black Ops Cold War Zombies introduces a new storyline called Dark Aether, which expands on the original Aether story completed in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and also ties into the main narrative of the campaign. Instead of playing as predefined characters, players can take on the role of multiplayer operator characters as part of the CIA’s response team, codenamed Requiem. Progress and downloads from multiplayer are shared with zombies, as players can use any weapon to start a zombie match, along with gunsmith, scoring and field upgrades, in addition to return mechanisms such as wall purchases, Mystery Box, Pack-a -Punch and past fan favorites. For the first time in Zombies, players can choose exfil cards, which will put them on a tricky wave with an increased number of enemies they must survive with before they can escape. Collectible data is also scattered across in-game cards, allowing players to track and uncover the main story as they progress. [9] A new game mode, Zombies Onslaught, is available exclusively to PlayStation players until November 1, 2021. In this mode, which is used on multiplayer maps, up to 2 players defend areas enclosed by a sphere of Dark Aether, which is supposed to be powered by killing zombies. Enough kills will move the ball to new positions, forcing players to move or die outside of the ball’s defensive area.
Plot
The main action of the game takes place in 1981, between the events of Black Ops and Black Ops 2. Also, some episodes of the game will take place in 1968, during the Vietnam War.
President Ronald Reagan learns of the Soviet spy Perseus, who seeks to upset the balance of power and change the course of history.
