Total War Saga: Troy

Total War Saga: Troy (from English – “Saga of total war: Troy”) – a computer game that combines elements of the genres of turn-based strategy and RTS. The fourteenth installment of the Total War series, technically based on the eleventh game in the series, Total War: Warhammer II, and the second game in the Total War Saga series. The game was developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega. The game was released on August 13, 2020 in the Epic Games Store, and the first day after the release, the game was distributed for free. The release on Steam took place a year later – September 2, 2021. The game is subject to the age limit of 16+.

Total War Saga: Troy recreates one of the greatest legends in human history, as outlined in Homer’s Iliad. The gameplay of the game will allow you to create your own heroic legacy in the late Bronze Age, which is the earliest historical period in the Total War series.

The plot is based on the story of Paris, the Trojan prince, who kidnapped Helen the Beautiful from Sparta, the wife of Tsar Menelaus.

Development of
The Total War Saga: Troy trademark was registered on August 02, 2019, and a small presentation of the game was presented at Gamescom in August 2019. On September 18, 2019, the day before the official announcement of the game, Total War Saga: Troy became the main topic of the latest issue of PC Gamer magazine. The official announcement of the game took place on September 19, 2019.

The release of the game was scheduled for August 13, 2020 through the Epic Games Store (within the first 24 hours after the release, it could be added to your library for free), on other platforms the release will take place in one year. According to a poll on the Total War series website, the game could be the first and last such an exclusive approach to releases.

Historical accuracy
The era of the Trojan War is shrouded in numerous mysteries, therefore the developers applied a unique approach in the research methods of that period, using both mythological sources and those that were created after this era – like Homer’s Iliad. The main historical sources such as archaeological finds were also used. Combining all these sources not only allowed the developers to more accurately represent this historical era, but also to take a truth-behind-myth approach, since the events associated with the Trojan War are surrounded by legends and stories about mythological creatures, super-powerful heroes and the intervention of the gods.

Gods and Favor is a new gameplay mechanic for Total War Saga: Troy. The Greek gods in the game are only spiritual incarnations, but they influence the game in a similar way to their Homeric counterparts. They do not directly intervene in the conflict, but the factions believe in it and the bonuses they receive are based on this. The more zealously the leader devotes himself to this or that god, the more the people support these beliefs. Bonuses depend on the specific god and provide a number of benefits, both for waging war and for gaining growth and resources. In total, Total War Saga: Troy will have seven Olympian gods: Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite, Athena, Poseidon, Apollo and Ares, who at certain intervals they will come into conflict with each other, as a result of which the player will need to decide which of them to support.

In total, Total War Saga: Troy will feature eight Trojan War heroes on both sides: Achilles, Odysseus, Menelaus, Agamemnon and Hector, Sarpedon, Aeneas and Paris. As was the case in Total War: Three Kingdoms, the heroes are factions.

Mythical creatures
The truth-by-myth approach allowed us to take some of the most famous mythical monsters and put them on the battlefield in a realistic embodiment, imagining what they really could be. For example, the Minotaur is featured in Total War Saga: Troy as a unique unit rather than a monster, adding variety to the unit lineup. [6] Centaurs are represented by detachments of horsemen, which can only be recruited in certain areas, where, according to myths, they lived.

Trojan horse
The classic Trojan horse is missing from Total War Saga: Troy’s gameplay. There is a version that Poseidon, the god of big waves and earthquakes, was also a god of horses, so a wooden horse could represent his anger. These earthquakes will be present in the game, damaging the walls of Troy and weakening the garrison.

Total War Saga: Troy will have its own unique approach to hero battles. With the help of the new combat ability “Challenge”, the heroes will be able to converge in one-on-one combat.
