The announcement of the game set was accompanied by massive angry reactions from fans of The Sims 4, who accused EA Games of ignoring the requests of the game audience. Recruitment ratings by game reviewers were mixed. Critics noted that the expansion felt quite specific, detached from The Sims 4 itself. Reviewers praised the game world for its attention to detail, but compared it to a large set, with little or no opportunity to live there and interact with the space and its inhabitants. Critics praised the kit for its varied missions, but also pointed to a number of problems, such as their repetitiveness of missions or the problems associated with the falling needs of the character.
The game set allows a player-controlled Sim from The Sims 4 to travel to the planet Batuu from the Star Wars universe during the time period of the latest trilogy. The local settlement, Black Spire Outpost, is home to a variety of extraterrestrial races in addition to human sims: Twi’leks, Abedonians, Bithi, Mirialane, Zabraki, Weequay, and Droids [K 1]. Batuu is not a residential world, but a technically huge site to visit, however there is a residential base that allows you to meet basic needs and stay indefinitely. The outpost itself at the start of the game is suffering from the oppression of the “First Order” – the successor of the Galactic Empire, which includes the Sith, representatives of the imperial army, including stormtroopers. He is opposed by the rebel organization “Resistance”, which also includes the Jedi. The city is also active in the “Scoundrels” – a local criminal group. Each of the 3 factions seeks to gain complete control over the city.
A controlled sim, who got to the outpost, must perform various tasks in order to receive credits, local currency. The easiest way is to collect in the vicinity and hand over scrap metal. Also, a sim can join one of 2 warring factions: “First Order” or “Resistance”. Participation on one of the parties involves an armed struggle with members of the opposite faction. Being in a faction provides access to special missions, while their nature is different: missions as part of the “First Order” are associated with patrolling the streets in search of evidence of hidden resistance. The character begins to work as a stormtrooper and shoot at the rebels with a blaster. Resistance missions involve secrecy and covert operations. Among other things, participation in a faction and successful completion of tasks are associated with the development of a character’s reputation. High status allows you to meet famous characters from Star Wars, such as Rei, Wee Moradi or Kylo Ren. The status upgrade works only for the faction that the character joined. He automatically turns into an enemy for the opposite side. The faction of local smugglers “Scoundrels” is neutral, and the character can always cooperate with them and complete their tasks in order to earn additional credits. The playable character plays a key role in the victory of one of the parties. In addition to the main missions associated with participation in one of the three factions, the player can perform side missions.
The game set introduces lightsaber battles that can be assembled and crafted from parts to then take part in duels. Among other things, the expansion for credits allows you to purchase a personal droid, including the R or BB series, which can act as an assistant on missions, it can also be taken back to the home world. The expansion also has transport – spaceships, among which, for example, the Millennium Falcon. “Journey to Batuu” also adds a collection of themed costumes, decorations and items that the player can use to decorate residential or public areas in other worlds
The game was created as part of a collaboration between the The Sims development team and Lucasfilm and Disney.
